Henry Edward Armstrong FRS[1] (6 May 1848 – 13 July 1937) was an English chemist. Though Armstrong was active in numerous areas of technological research, including the chemistry of naphthalene derivatives, he is kept in mind today typically for his ideas and work on the teaching of science. Armstrong's acid is named for him. Armstrong was created and existed most of his life in Lewisham, a region of London, uk. After concluding school in 1864 at age 16, he spent a winter in Gibraltar, which has a relative, pertaining to health causes. In the early spring of 1865, Armstrong went back to England and entered the Regal College of Chemistry working in london, now the department of chemistry at Imperial College. Substance training in those days was not prolonged, and at age 18 he was selected by Edward Frankland to aid in devising techniques of determining organic impurities in sewage.[3] Armstrong pursued additional studies under Hermann Kolbe at Leipzig, earning a Ph. G. in 1869 for work with " stomach acids of sulfur. " A permanent appointment in 1879 at City and Guilds of London Company, now also a part of Soberano College, adopted. At age thirty eight, Armstrong became Professor of Chemistry in yet another Soberano College precursor, the Central Institution in 1884. It was here that he founded a three-year diploma training course in chemical anatomist, " viewing the need for a far more scientific frame of mind of head among English industrialists" He had already started on the methodical synthesis, destruction, and strength constitution of many naphthalene derivatives in 1881, building on before work on benzene derivatives and Erlenmeyer's proposal intended for the framework of naphthalene. W. P. Wynne was his most critical collaborator; their 263 naphthalene samples, accrued over several decades, have become preserved in Imperial College or university as the Armstrong-Wynne Collection.
